There and back again, a snow hobbit's tale.

Took yesterday off. Two days in a row of hours on end operating one machine or another to remove snow had wore me out. First day was an experiment with the snow blower. I rarely could see the intake, which is 32x22 inches. Somewhere beneath the snow that fell over its top was the engine. Poking from the snow was the exit chute and some or just the top of the gas tank. The muffler was forever blowing snow itself, and the fumes were not leaving the operating area. After three hours straight, I called it a day.

Making a couple passes up and down the driveway saved me. It would have been a lot more tractor time bucketing. with shorter runs between dumps. Even so, I have never done so much push scoop, pivot, find a bank, and dump in the nine years on the hill. After three hours straight on that, it was called a day. At least I could get a vehicle onto or off the road.

Sunday was a wash. I had no will to move snow. Today I finished, for the most part, with a session on the tractor. It could stand one more policing with the snow blower. Perhaps tomorrow. Or, I may just do another snow shoe and nothing else. After almost another three hours straight, I traded machine for a trail breaking up to the orchard and back. That blew some cholesterol out of the aortas. I need to go again tomorrow and then start around the fence. I could see from the gate that the southern electrical runs have pulled away from their moorings in at least one place.

That will take a couple days. Then I should scout the sap mainline top to bottom. Supposed to rain before I can get that far into the woods. Gonna be interesting...
